5 Questions to Ask Before You Switch to a New Wholesale Supplier

A cheaper price is the obvious reason to switch suppliers — but it's rarely the only thing that matters once you factor in reliability, delivery, and what happens when something goes wrong. Here are five questions worth answering before you commit.

1. What happens if an order arrives short or damaged? Every supplier will occasionally get something wrong. What matters is whether there's a clear, fast process to report and resolve it — not whether it happens at all.

2. How is pricing actually confirmed at checkout? Some suppliers show one price on a listing and a different one once delivery fees or minimum order surcharges are added. Look for suppliers who show your final total, including any bulk discounts, before you commit to paying.

3. Who's actually responsible if delivery goes wrong? In some models, whoever lists the product isn't who packs and ships it — which is fine, but you should know who to contact and what recourse you have if a delivery is late or wrong.

4. Can you build a track record with them? Repeat business with a supplier you trust is usually worth more than a slightly better price from someone new — you learn their lead times, they learn your ordering patterns, and both sides get faster at resolving issues. Weigh a short-term saving against giving up that relationship.

5. What do other buyers say? Reviews and fulfilment history (how many orders a supplier has actually completed, not just how long they've been listed) are a much better signal than a polished product description. A supplier with a real track record of delivered orders is a safer bet than one with none.

None of this means the cheapest option is wrong — often it's exactly right. It just means price alone isn't the whole picture, and a few minutes of checking upfront can save a lot of hassle later.
